Carphone Warehouse claims 10% UK laptop sales

Adds Apple MacBooks to retail stores

Mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse claims it now accounts for one in ten of all laptop purchases in the UK. The independent iPhone seller will also start selling Apple's MacBooks in its stores.

In May US technology retail giant Best Buy paid $2.1bn for the stake in the Carphone Warehouse's European and US retail business. The Carphone Warehouse operates 2,400 stores in Europe, and specialises in mobile-phone sales and services.

"We have taken over ten percent of the laptop market and hope to increase this figure further," Carphone's New Business and Multichannel director Andrew Brem told Mobile News.

"We haven't determined how much we want to increase is by as a percentage share but we want to do what we did with mobile phones and make as many connections as we can."

Carphone will soon add Apple and Sony to its current list of manufactuters, which includes Acer, Asus, Fujitsu Siemens, HP and Toshiba.
