Apple CEO Steve Jobs is the IT figure that most inspires people to seek a career in technology, says CWJobs.co.uk.

Research by the recruitment website revealed Jobs was closely followed by Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg and Michael Dell from PC and laptop manufacturer Dell. Microsoft's Steve Balmer was named the fourth person most likely to inspire a career and IT, while Larry Page, co-founder of Google holds the number five spot.

CWJobs also said 46 percent of IT professionals believe IT is a more desirable industry to work in now compared to five years ago and 40 percent believe Apple's iPad has encouraged people to enter the industry.

Furthermore, seven in ten said Google is that's most helped make IT a desirable industry to work in, closely followed by Apple, which was named by 59 percent of IT professionals and Microsoft, which came third with 53 percent.

The website also said 58 percent blelieve the surge in mobile platforms makes IT more attractive for job hunters, while 47 percent highlighted the rise in social media and 24 percent cited cloud computing.

"It's interesting to see how people's perceptions of the IT sector have changed so rapidly over the past few years," said Richard Nott, website director at CWJobs.co.uk.
