Online auction site eBay plans to change its iconic feedback system, banning sellers from leaving negative comments about buyers. eBay says the changes will "improve the overall customer experience".

The company explained that such feedback slows down trade. When buyers leave negative comments about sellers, the sellers sometimes retaliate with their own views.

So, from May, eBay sellers won't be able to leave negative or neutral messages about buyers.

Sellers are complaining that it will leave them unprotected. Sellers have complained that by still allowing buyers to leave dissenting comments about sellers, eBay skews the whole trading process.

eBay disagrees: "If a buyer doesn't pay, the seller can easily contact eBay; we will review any complaint and maybe remove the buyer."
