BT is to axe a further 15,000 jobs this year, reducing its staff by 10 percent.
According to the telco, the job losses will be through voluntary redundancy, most of which will be centered around its Global Services division that deals with the IT and networking for large businesses. The troubled division is currently in the process of being restructured.
"Our aim is to work closely with the unions to reduce BT's total labour cost, of both direct and indirect staff, as this is critical to the success of the company going forward," said BT.
Andy Kerr, deputy general secretary of the Communication Workers Union, added: "We're working closely with the company to ensure any losses are voluntary and we're looking at new ways of finding new work and retaining permanent employees, including secondment agreements."
BT announced last November it had already cut 4,000 jobs and planned to lose another 6,000 by March this year. However, some commentors have suggested that this total may already total around 15,000.
