  In March, I wrote an article about how Apple should change the way iTunes Store purchases work. Namely, that there should be a way to buy content now, but download it later--especially in the case of large video files such as movies or TV show seasons.

• News: Reddit apologizes for 'online witch hunt' for Boston bombing suspect

  In a testament to the issues surrounding the appropriate use of social media during a tragedy, Reddit is publicly apologizing for the role that it played last week in fueling an online witch hunt that led to identifying an innocent Brown University student as a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.

• News: Senate takes major step toward Internet sales tax

  The U.S. Senate has voted 74-20 to close debate and move to a final vote on a bill allowing states to collect sales tax from out-of-state Internet and catalog retailers.

• News: Schmidt says Google Glass still a year away

  Google's Eric Schmidt said the company's wearable computer, Glass, is about a year from reaching the market.

• News: Tumblr ads go mobile

  Animated GIFs, journal entries, cat photos, and now, more ads. Tumblr, in an effort to further boost its revenue, is rolling out ads into users' mobile feeds.

• News: AV-TEST stands by claims that Bing shows more malware-infected links than Google

  AV-TEST today stood by the results of its search engine investigation that claimed Microsoft's Bing shows five times the number of malware-hosting websites than Google in its results

• News: Facebook Home surpasses 500,000 installs, gets lots of one-star reviews

  In just 10 days, Facebook Home has just surpassed a half-million installations on Google Play. As a point of comparison, that's only slightly less than the population of the entire nation of Luxemburg.

• News: Twitter, Comedy Central team for five-day #ComedyFest

  Hot on the heels of the launch of its new music discovery service, Twitter now plans to push its content chops even further by holding a five-day comedy "festival" in partnership with Viacom's Comedy Central, complete with the abundant use of hashtags.

• News: Google Now may migrate from Android to become a Web app

  Google Now may soon escape the confines of Android, if the signs of a coming Web version are to be believed.

• News: Debate rages over contentious Internet sales tax proposal

  Pay up, sucka! The U.S. Senate is rushing to vote on a bill that would mean you--yes, you--would have to start paying sales tax for your online purchases, but opponents warn that pushing the proposal through could create some severe side effects.

• News: 80% of HK commercial websites use social media

  About 80 percent of commercial websites in Hong Kong use social media to communicate with their customers, according to Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC).

• News: Facebook Home hits 500K downloads

  In the 10 days that Facebook Home has been available, it has had more than 500,000 downloads.

• News: IDC: SAP and Oracle winners as software growth slows

  A growing interest in big data, analytics, and cloud computing helped propel a weak software enterprise market last year, according to research from IDC. SAP and Oracle fared the best among the large software vendors.

• News: Anonymous calls for Internet blackout to protest CISPA

  Hacking group Anonymous asked websites to black out their front pages on Monday, in protest against legislation in the U.S. that would allow online companies and government agencies to more easily share personal information.

• News: Largest bitcoin exchange, Mt. Gox, 'throttles' trading to tame price swings

  The largest bitcoin exchange, Mt. Gox, is in a continuing battle with miscreants trying to manipulate the price of the virtual currency.

• News: Amazon, Netflix roll out more original programming

  Amazon and Netflix are dialing up efforts to stand out as more than just streaming services. The two companies hope to emerge as producers of original TV content as well, and on Friday, they released a total of 14 pilot episodes and a new supernatural series.

• News: Yahoo slims down, again, trashing Deals, SMS Alerts

  Yahoo is giving itself a bit of a makeover. Earlier this week it launched two new mobile apps for email and weather; now it's ditching numerous longstanding products, including Deals and SMS Alerts, in an attempt to sharpen its focus, the company announced Friday.

• News: Google outages blamed on sign-in system

  A malfunctioning log-in system affected millions of people's ability to access a variety of Google applications on Wednesday, including Gmail and Drive.

• News: Social nets could hold wealth of info on Boston bombers

  As the manhunt goes on for the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, the bombers' social networks could give investigators needed clues about them.

• News: Twitter and BBC America team on 'in-Tweet branded video'

  Fast on the heels of its not-game-changing #Music service launch, Twitter appears to be jumping straight into streaming video content. BBC America has announced that it will be the first channel to team up with Twitter to present "in-Tweet" video.
