Yahoo launches mobile oneSeach beta

Tailored search results for mobile phone users

Yahoo has launched a beta of its mobile search service, oneSearch, in the UK.

The application, which can be accessed through Yahoo’s mobile web page on an internet-connected handheld, delivers search results that are relevant to the location of users.

To search for a type of restaurant, for example, the user would need to type the term into the search box to be presented with local results, complete with details such as their telephone number and ratings. Users will be able to search for information including weather, news, finance, photos and websites.

Geraldine Wilson, vice president Yahoo’s Connected Life Europe division said: “What consumers want from a mobile search is entirely different to what they want on the PC. oneSearch delivers relevant results with just one search, instead of a sea of web links to PC sites.”

The company predicts by 2016 more people will access their Yahoo services from a mobile than a PC.
