Wikipedia CD version now available

Nominations for final release now open

A CD version of Wikipedia that’s designed for those with no access to the internet is now available

Although it promises higher-quality articles that have been edited by volunteers, it covers far fewer topics than Wikipedia’s website.

The online version offers over 1.7 million articles covering a wide variety of topics whereas the CD will have a set of 2,000 articles, focusing on geography, literature and other topics that are less time sensitive.

If submitted articles meet the required standards they can be added to the nominations page for an impartial reviewer to access. Articles are then either added to the list or removed depending on whether they meet the criteria.

Wikipedia Version 0.5 on disc can currently be bought for $14 (£7) from Wikipedia's site.
