Google & MyYahoo are king of RSS

Report analyses most popular aggregators

FeedBurner, an RSS feed-tracking and management service, has released a report that analyses the most popular feed aggregators on the web based on content views and clicks back to a publisher's website.

The results? Google Reader tops the list of feed aggregators as far as views, which are the number of times a feed's content is downloaded and displayed. But MyYahoo! is the largest driver of traffic back to a publisher's site, according to the report.

MyYahoo! had 54 percent of the clicks (returns to a publisher's site) in the survey with Google Reader pulling in 21 percent, FeedBurner said. The top four aggregators measured by clicks also included Bloglines, with 11 percent, and Netvibes, with 9 percent. Those four accounted for 95 percent of all web aggregator clicks.

Meanwhile, Google Reader pulled in 59 percent of the views, according to FeedBurner. Google Reader, Bloglines, NewsGator and Netvibes accounted for 98 percent of all recorded views, FeedBurner said.

The survey used the 604,533 feeds that FeedBurner tracks on behalf of 347,000 bloggers, podcasters and publishers.
