YouTube 'sex clip' leads to shut-down order

Brazlian court acts on suit from Ronaldo’s ex

A court has ordered YouTube to shut down its video-sharing site in Brazil, after the former fiancée of footballer Ronaldo sued the site after a clip appearing to show her having sex was posted online.

Daniela Cicarelli complained to YouTube last year after a video capturing her with her boyfriend at a beach became the most-watched online clip in Brazil.

YouTube had taken the video offline, according to reports, before visitors uploaded it again in a case that’s been dragging on for several months. Local reports say the clip continues to appear sporadically online, prompting Sao Paulo state Supreme Court Justice Enio Santarelli Zulian to issue the order to close down the site.

Cicarelli is one of Brazil's most famous TV personalities. As well as her previous attachment to Real Madrid player Ronaldo, she’s also a host on MTV Brazil.

The Brazilian court order is not the first time YouTube has been the focus of controversy. The company is in regular discussions with content providers due to the availability of copyright-protected content on its site, and it’s currently at loggerheads with the Japanese entertainment industry following complaints from rights holders.

Last week, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers said Google’s response for its requests to add preventative measures to its site were not satisfactory. Despite the lack of concrete proposals from YouTube the group remains hopeful that their complaints will be addressed.
