Real to distribute Google Toolbar, Firefox

Multiyear agreeement penned

Real, Mozilla and Google have reached a multi-year agreement to distribute certain applications to users.

When users download Real's RealPlayer media software, they will be given the option to also install Mozilla's Firefox browser and Google's Toolbar, the companies said in a joint statement today. All of the products are free.

By working together, the three companies will be able to compete more effectively with Microsoft and its media player, browser and other software. The deal should also help expand their audience of users, because RealNetworks distributes more than two million pieces of software a day globally, according to the company.

Google's Toolbar and Mozilla's Firefox will soon be available for users of RealPlayer, the Rhapsody music service and RealArcade games, the companies said.

Google and RealNetworks have distributed software for each other for the past two years, so the deal expands their work together, they said.
