Gmail users presented with server error
Google's Gmail service went down for users around the world yesterday.
The problem which stopped users gaining access to their Gmail inboxes appeared to effect users everywhere late in the afternoon. Instead of precious emails, Gmail users were given a 502 error stating the server could not complete the request.
Google acknowledged the fault at 5:30pm stating it was being investigated. Later at 6:10pm, it said the fault 'should be resolved', apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured that system reliability is a top priority for the online giant.
Later in the evening Google admitted that some users experienced slow performance or errors and said: "For everyone who was affected, we apologize - we know you count on Google to work for you, and we worked hard to restore normal operation for you."
"Although our engineering team is still fully engaged on investigation, we are confident we have established the root cause of the event and corrected it."
Google estimated that problems lasted for an aggregate of 18 minutes.
