Amazon Appstore opens in Europe

Amazon's selection of Android apps is now available in the U.K, Germany, France, Italy and Spain

Amazon launched its Appstore in Europe on Thursday, giving customers in the U.K, Germany, France, Italy and Spain access to its selection of Android apps.

Amazon customers with an Android phone or tablet in those countries can now download the Appstore to their device, Amazon said in a news release. There's a localized store for each country.

The localized stores have different names. In Germany, France and Italy, the Appstore is known as "App-Shop", in Spain, customers will find "Tienda Apps", and in the U.K. the store is called "Amazon Appstore for Android". Apps and games purchased can be used across different Android devices.

European users also get access to features like the "Free App of the Day," which offers a paid app for free every day, Amazon said. The Appstore also includes personalized recommendations, it added.

With the opening of the European Appstore for Android, Amazon extends its reach beyond the U.S. where it has sold "millions of apps" since the store opened there last year, it said.
