Twitter hits 10 million UK users

Vast majority utilise mobile access to social network

Social blogging website Twitter has announced that it has 10 million users in the UK.

The site is boasting 10 million ‘active’ users in Blighty, of which 80 percent use the service via their mobile. Twitter defines an active user as someone who logs in to the website at least once every 30 days.

Twitter said: “Snapshot of Twitter in the UK: 10m active users, 80% of which are also active on mobile. And an office that's been open almost a year!”

The popular social network has more than 140 million active users worldwide and 500 million registered users.

Yesterday Twitter launched a weekly email digest for its users to keep up with the goings on in the Twittersphere.

“This summary features the most relevant Tweets and stories shared by the people you’re connected to on Twitter.” it said.

It also contains the ‘most engaging’ tweets seen by the people you follow, even if you’re not a follower of that user. If you’re not a fan of the email digest then it can be turned off in the notification settings.
