A third of Brits 'don't trust' mobile banking

Online shopping is perceived as safer compared to access a bank account

A third of Brits don't access their bank accounts from their mobile phone, because they don't 'trust' the service, says MyVoucherCodes.

Research of 1,907 Brits by the comparision website revealed 68 percent currently don't use mobile banking services. While the majority said trust was the reason behind not utilising mobile banking, a third said it was because they had no need for the service 19 percent admitted they had no idea how to go about accessing their bank account from their handset.

However, Brits are much more enthusiastic about online banking, with 71 percent of those surveyed using web-based banking services. Of those that use online banking but don't use mobile banking services, 84 percent said it was because they believe banking on a PC is safer.

More than three-quarter (76 percent) said they shop online and of those that didn't use mobile or online banking but still purchased goods online, 53 precent revealed it was because they feel shopping is 'more secure' than accessing a bank account from a PC or mobile device.

"It's actually quite surprising to find out that not many people trust online and mobile banking. In an age when we are so dependent on the internet, mobile and online banking are both just a natural progression from being able to check your balance at an ATM," said Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk,

"You do hear a lot of horror stories in the media about people that have had their details stolen and subsequently had their bank account hacked. However, these cases are quite rare, if you think about how many successful online and mobile banking transactions there are every day. If you are concerned about it, make sure you get in touch with your bank and see how they can help you. Once you have tried online banking, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it- it makes life so much easier!"
