Submissions open for second Vimeo Festival + Awards

Grant of $25,000 up for grabs for Grand Prize winner

Submissions have opened for the second Vimeo Festival + Awards, with grants of $5,000 up for grabs in 13 different categories.

From today, filmmakers can submit their works for consideration, with four new categories opened since last year's awards. The works must be originals that have premiered anywhere online between 31 July 2010 and 20 February 2012, or any original work that has never been premiered before.

As well as the Animation, Captured, Documentary, Experimental, Motion Graphics, Music Video, Narrative, Remix and Series awards there are the new Action Sports, Advertising, Fashion and Lyrical categories to enter as well.

The winner of each category will receive a $5,000 (around £3,220) grant and there is a $25,000 (£16,100) grant for the overall Grand Prize winner.

The categories will be judged by independent juries including the winners of the categories in the previous Vimeo Festival + Awards as well as two industry experts per category. The full jury list should be released in January.

"Since our inaugural event, we have watched online video explode into a primary medium for new talent discovery," said Jeremy Boxer, Director of the Vimeo Festival + Awards.

"More and more creators earn visibility, credibility and, ultimately, work by showcasing their videos online. We created the Vimeo Festival + Awards to celebrate the best of the best of these videos."

You'll need to be a Vimeo member to submit your entry. The deadline for entries is 20 February. You'll need to pay a $20 (£13) fee per video submitted, or $5 (£3.20) if you are a Vimeo Plus or PRO member.

Full rules are available on the Vimeo website.
