76% of web users want a speedy checkout process when shopping online

Nearly 10% admit delivery issue last year ahve put them off shopping online this Xmas

More than three quarters (76 percent) of Brits look for a speedy checkout process when shopping online, says Postcode Anywhere.

Acccording to research of 1,000 Brits by ecommerce software firm Postcode Anywhere, more than half of consumers say they abandon online purchases because of security concerns, while 44 percent said long web-based forms that take too long to fill out were a top reason for not completing an online purchase.

Furthermore, female shoppers are more likely to rely on product reviews than men when it comes to buying online. More than a third (36 percent) of women said customer reviews were 'very important' when shopping online.

Nearly two thirds (64.3 percent) want a timed delivery slot when ordering online while half (51.9 percent) said the ability to collect in-store was also an important option.

Nearly one in five (18 percent) said they plan to buy all of their Christmas presents online this year, while 19 percent claim they'll buy more festive gifts on the web this year compared to last year. However, nearly one in ten (9.3 percent) claim to have been put off online shopping this Christmas due to problems with delivery last year.

"We would urge online businesses to take the time to make sure that small things aren't damaging their performance. The importance of a clean, quick and professional-looking website cannot be underestimated," said Postcode Anywhere's managing director Guy Mucklow.

"The buying process doesn't finish when the customer leaves your site: fulfilment needs to be scrutinised too. For an online business to succeed there needs to be a clear focus on the whole customer journey."
