Google is once again aiming to rival Facebook by launching a social network.
Social network is currently in 'field trial'
Google+, which is currently in a 'limited field trial' and is only available to a select few, lets consumers share photos, chat to each other and leave messages and comments.
Furthermore, the social network benefits from Circles which lets users create lists of friends to share content with, as well as live video-chat for multiple users known as Hangouts, Huddle – a form of group instant messaging – and Sparks that lets users interact with others that have similar interests.
"We'd like to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to software. We want to make Google better by including you, your relationships, and your interests. And so begins the Google+ project," Google said in a blog.
"Online sharing needs a serious re-think, so it's time we got started."
Google also revealed an app for handsets running Google Android, that allows users to access the social network from their mobile phones, is available already, while an iPhone app will be released in the near future.
Google has previously launched Buzz and Wave, which it hoped would rival the success of Facebook, but instead they have been slammed by critics and failed to become popular with web users.
