McAfee adds TV and music filtering to parental controls software

Family Protection now stop

McAfee has added filtering for internet TV, music and online games to its Family Protection parental controls software.

Parents can now stop kids downloading songs with explicit lyrics from iTunes as well as restricting TV shows beings streamed based on their Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ratings and even stop access to online gaming sites.

The security firm has also added a number of different age-appropriate settings that differentiate between teens and younger children, as well as enhancing the remote device management that allow parents to adjust the parental controls settings when away from the home. An option for email activity reports that provides adults with a detailed log of just what children get up to when on the PC is also now available.

Furthermore, the software now also automatically turns on a feature offered by a number of search engines including Google, Bing and Yahoo that filters out explicit, adult content from search results .

"McAfee Family Protection gives parents a powerful tool for understanding how their kids use the internet. Parents can choose to block categories of sites, filter out only a handful of sites, or block nothing at all and simply review online activity reports," said Todd Gebhart, executive vice president and general manager, McAfee Consumer, Mobile and Small Business.

Gebhart also said the software gives parents the power of knowledge.

"Knowing what their kids are doing online gives them the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with them. When parents talk to their kids at home, they're more likely to be responsible Internet users outside the home as well."

McAfee Family Protection is priced at £29.99 and available from the security firm's online store now.
