Skype suffers outage

VoIP service crash thought to be affect users worldwide

Voice over IP service Skype, which was recently acquired by Microsoft, has suffered an outage.

"Some of you may have problems signing in to Skype and making calls. We're investigating and hope to have more details to share soon," said Skype's Peter Parkes on a blog.

It is thought the outage, which started around Lunchtime today, has affected users of the VoIP service across the world, although Skype has yet to comment on what caused the crash.

Parkes also offered advice to web users on how to quit the application and re-load it on Windows and Mac OS X devices, which he said "should allow you to sign in again".
