Online music video service Vevo hits the UK

Watch music videos from 7,500 artists

Online music video service Vevo has been available to UK web users.

Until the now the service, which was first launched in December 2009, was only available in the US and Canada. Last month, Music Week reported the service was due to launch at the end of April, which means Vevo has hit its deadline. Users can search for videos by the name of a song or artists, and are even offered the ability to create a playlist of up 75 videos from Vevo's catalogue of 25,000 videos from more than 7,500 artists.

Vevo is backed by Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group, which provide the majority of the content, although EMI has also made some of its artists music videos available through the site.

Apps for Apple's iPhone and Google Android handsets are also available that allow users to stream the tracks on their smartphone and in some cases even purchase the videos from iTunes.
