3 offers 'human hotspots' in London and other cities

Get online for free

Mobile network 3 is letting lose a number of 'Human hotspots' across London, Cardiff and Newcastle in the coming weeks, to ensure Brits can get online when they're out and about for free.

The 'human hotspots' use Three's MiFi device - a wireless modem that emits a Wi-Fi signal that devices can connect to, ensuring access to the web from anywhere that is covered by 3's 3G network, without the need for cables or USB ports.

3's human hotspots come in the wake of research by the mobile network that revealed that nearly a third (31 percent) of Brits have access for mobile gadgets, or devices that can be used on the move such as the Amazon Kindle ebook reader or the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) handheld games console, for Christmas.

Furthermore, 60 percent of Brits admit to owning a mobile gadget and 72 percent claim they're most likely to use it while they're in the living room. The bedroom came a close second, with 48 percent, while 29 percent said they use mobile gadgets at work.

Nearly a quarter (24 percent) use their mobile gadgets on the train and 14 percent claim they use them while on the toilet.

"People are now using mobile internet as part of their everyday lifestyle, and we think it's important that we're able to support our customers by providing them with reliable and fast connectivity for wherever they want to go online," said Matthew Halfin, the marketing manager for mobile broadband at 3.
