17% use Facebook when they should be working

Web users spend 4hrs work time per week on social networking sites

On average Brits spend nearly four hours a week using social networking sites, such as Facebook, while they're at work, says T-Mobile and Sony Ericsson.

Research by the pair revealed 17 percent of employees admitted to using the sites when they should be working, while 22 percent claim they check Facebook up to five times a day.

On average, Brits have 159 friends on social networks but two thirds of web users only keep in regular contact with less than 10 percent of them.

When it comes to communicating online, 45 percent say they're more confident online than face-to-face while 20 percent of Brits admit to getting stressed or anxious if they are unable to get online and check social networking sites or emails.

Furthermore, 20 percent of men claim they spend more time on Facebook than they do having sex. Meanwhile, 15 percent of Brits admit they have been on a date with someone they have met on a social networking site.
