Black Eyed Peas track first to get one million downloads

Milestone is a significant step for download market

'I Gotta Feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas has become the first song to be downloaded more than one million times in the UK.

The track was first released in June last year. Since its release, it has spent 33 weeks within the Top 40. The track was also named the most downloaded single of last year by Apple's iTunes.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, told the BBC, the milestone is "a very significant step for the download market".

"It's been with us for five years but this really marks a coming of age," he said referring to the ability to download music.

Downloads now account for 98 percent of all UK single sales.

"Hopefully the good vibes from that song will continue to brighten people's lives," singer with the group Fergie, added.
