UK ISP TalkTalk is offering Brits a year's free internet access.
The offer, which runs from June 1, will see customers given its Essentials package for free for 12 months, providing they sign an 18-month contract with the ISP and pay TalkTalk's line rental, which costs £11.49
The Essential internet package, which is normally priced at £6.99, offers internet access at a speed of up to 24Mbps, as well as a 40Gb download limit, free evening and weekend calls to national number and a free wireless router.
"A year's free broadband and calls from TalkTalk is a bold move to attract new customers and consolidate its position in an increasingly cut throat market," said Michael Phillips, from Broadbandchoices.co.uk.
"This move could however bring to mind TalkTalk's launch offer in 2006 of 'free broadband' which caused a gold rush of consumers desperate to sign up but ultimately resulted in a customer backlash as the company just wasn't geared up to cope with demand."

K Boyd said: Been with TalkTalk since they offered the free broadband package - a few teething problems - their customer service is a shambles but since I have family working for claranet any ISP problem is diagnosed at my end and all that remains is persuading the CS drone that you know what youre talking about Can take a while - its usually best to bypass the slave and get a master
Rachel Stanhope said: Dont do it My ISP Pipex has recently been taken over by Talk Talk My internet went down on the 29th April for 3 weeks The worst customer service in the world - no UK call centres and promises of being called back never honoured until the 3rd week I am trying to migrate to PlusNet but as yet Pipex have yet to respond to the request which was sent 3 weeks ago - not that Im surprised
R Nicol said: Not a good deal if they cut you off randomly and routinely - which they do - and leave you with no way of contacting them except through your mobile to a 10pmin call line - and then dont answer for ages - cause they dont have enough staff - who are also not competent to discuss your issues - so rubbish customer service Not even worth being free

Peter said: Sorry but I first joined as a telephone customerI later signed up for the BroadBandThis did not change my monthly payments so it IS free
MalcolmF said: Ive been with them from the start as well On the two occasions I have had cause to call about a problem I was dealt with promptly and properly and the problem solved Perhaps it was because they were real technical problems and not something that was between my ears The BB was never really free it was always really included in the package but that is a difficult concept for the average UK brain to take on board along with the idea of actually reading the instructions
