Avanti Communications has revealed it hopes to offer satellite broadband to more Brits by September this year.
The broadband provider will launch its 'HYLAS 1' satellite into orbit in August. Subscriptions to the service, which offers download speeds of 'up to' 8Mbps, will be made available in both the UK and Europe the following month.
The satellite, which was manufactured by Astrium UK, was developed over three years and cost £120m.
The broadband provider also revealed it has agreed funding for another satellite, the HYLAS 2 project.
Currently the ISP offers satellite broadband to around 5,000 web users in the UK and Europe by renting a TV satellite.
Anati will be competing against Eutelsat Communications which offers the £29.99 per month Tooway package that comes with download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps.
