'YouTube' is most searched for term by children

'Adult' themes also high in list of popular search words

'YouTube' is the most searched for term on the internet by children, says Symantec.

Research by the security vendor revealed that Google's video-sharing site was followed by social network Facebook and Google.

However Symantec also revealed that searches for sex and porn were near the top of the list for the 13-18 age group, which is hardly surprising.

However, more worryingly those aged between 8-12 and even the sevens and under had 'adult' terms appearing in the top 20 most searched words.

"When it comes to online threats, parents need to be concerned about more than just their child running into inappropriate content," said Caroline Cockerill, family online safety representative for Symantec.

Symantec also said that celebrities also appeared in the most popular search terms with Cheryl Cole coming in at 21 and King of Pop Michael Jackson at 22.
