AlertMe Swingometer charts nation's energy use

Heat map depicts regional usage

AlertMe, the home energy monitoring service, has unveiled a tool that allows web users to see how much energy the UK is using as a whole.

The AlertMe Swingometer rocks backwards and forwards as the nation increases and decreases its energy use, and depicts energy savings for specific geographic regions on a 'heat map'.

Web users who have subscribed to AlertMe's energy service, which allows users to monitor their energy usage from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can view their individual Swingometer through the AlertMe online dashboards.

"As 29 percent of the country's total energy consumption occurs in the home, it is important for consumers to understand their role in reducing the UK's carbon footprint," said the company.

Pilgrim Beart, co-founder and CEO of AlertMe, said that by making energy usage visible to consumers, consumption in the home can be reduced by as much as 20 percent.
