Bebo is worst social network for cyberbullying

Nearly a third of all incidents happen on Bebo

Bebo is the social network where teenagers are most likely to experience cyberbullying, says Beatbulling.

According to the anti-bullying charity, nearly 30 percent of kids that have experienced cyberbullying said the problem occurred on Bebo.

Furthermore, research by the charity revealed that nearly two thirds of kids said they had witnessed online bullying taking place, with 45 percent saying it happened on Bebo, earning the site the nickname 'Bullybo'.

MSN's instant messaenger service, Facebook, MySpace and website builder Piczo were also revealed as the scene of many attacks.

Beatbullying said 70 percent of victims know the person bullying them, while girls are more likely to be bullied than boys with 23.8 percent reporting incidents of cyberbullying compared to 12.2 percent of boys.

One in five of 11 to 18 year olds said they had seen hate sites online designed to bully people and a quarter said they had been sent a video clip of someone being bullied.

Emma-Jane Cross, chief executive of Beatbullying, said: "We know the consequences of cyberbullying are just as traumatic as those of face-to-face bullying; in the past year alone, we've witnessed tragic suicides resulting from relentless online hate campaigns".

"Today I also urge social networking sites, internet service providers and mobile phone companies to take measures to identify and remove offensive material, making cyberbullying much more difficult for the perpetrators."
