Amazon remains most popular online retailer

Travel companies gain popularity says Hitwise

Amazon has once again topped Hitwise's list of the 50 most popular online retailers.

According to the web analytics firm, Argos and Play.com also retained their usual positions of two and three in the Hot Shops List, which is compiled every quarter in conjunction with the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG).

Hitwise said new entrants to the top 10 this quarter include Thompson Holidays at eight and easyJet at 10. Holiday firm Thomas Cook also made a significant jump up 14 places to 16.

"Most of the travel companies moved up the rankings this quarter, but this seasonal increase masks an annual decline in traffic to most of the sites," said Hitwise's director of research, Robin Goad.

The Hot Shops List also saw a number of high-street stores rise in popularity, with Next taking fourth place and New Look surging 13 places to 27.

"Consumers welcome high street brands' continuing response to the normalisation of internet in the retail mix, as the Hot Shops List shows," added IMRG's CEO, James Roper
