Google claims 90% of UK search market

Domination of web search continues to grow

Over the past year Google increased its share of the UK's web search market by almost 10 points, claiming almost 90 percent of all UK web searches.

According to Hitwise, Google's share of the UK internet search market was around 87 percent. 'Rival' Yahoo's slice of the UK search market declined from 8.6 percent to just above 4 percent. Ask had around 3 percent of the market, and MSN slightly more.

According to Hitwise Google's domination is a little less pronounced in the US, where the software giant's search-market share grew 'only' from 65 percent to 68 percent in the past 12 months. Visit PC Advisor's Google news spotlight for latest Google opinion and news.
