Ask.com bids for Dictionary.com

Deal may lead to videos on dictionary site

Search engine Ask.com intends to purchase the Lexico Publishing group, which owns a number of websites including Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com.

The deal, which according to ComScore will increase Ask's audience by 11 percent to more than 145 million unique monthly users, will see the two services closely integrated. This may even result in the addition of videos next to dictionary definitions.

Ask did not disclose the financial details of the deal, which is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2008, but admitted it was considering further acquisitions
