Voice over IP (VoIP) provider Skype is launching an unlimited calling service. The deal will be available to more than a third of the world’s population - but values 'unlimited' calls as no more than 10,000 minutes per month.
Three types of subscription are available, including unlimited calls to landlines in the UK (£1.95 per month), unlimited calls to landlines in 20 European countries (£2.95 per month) and unlimited calls to landlines in 34 countries worldwide (£6.95 per month).
The new subscriptions are the first time Skype has offered a single, monthly flat rate for international calling to landline numbers in 34 countries.
Users don't need to sign-up to a permanent subscription to take advantage of the plan, which lets users make calls whenever they like, all day every day.
Users can purchase a subscription directly from Skype, the company is offering customers who purchase one of the new subscriptions for a 3-month or 12-month period before 1 June 2008 an additional 33 percent discount.
