First locations for BT's 24Mbps broadband announced

868 exchanges will get 21CN by May 2009

Details of the first locations in the UK that will receive BT's new 24 megabits per second (Mbps) broadband service have been released.

The 868 exchanges that will be the first to be switched to BT's 21st Century Network (21CN) Wholesale Broadband Connect network are all located in the West Midlands, with the exception of Swansea in south Wales.

Of these exchanges, 39 already have the capability for the 21CN broadband service while a further 43 will be ready in April this year. The remaining 786 exchanges will receive the service by 19 May 2009. BT expects the rest of country to be 21CN-enabled by 2012.

A full list of the exchanges can be found at Samknows.com.
