Windows Messenger & Hotmail hit by day-long outage

Microsoft puts Windows Live services back online

Microsoft said all users of Windows Live services such as Hotmail, Messenger, SkyDrive and Photo Gallery can now access the tools after a day-long outage that affected people in Europe and the US. UPDATE: Microsoft says Live services are back on track

The company blamed an issue that was affecting the log-in process via Windows Live ID, which provides single click access to all the accounts a user has on Windows Live.

"Earlier today, an issue began that has caused some consumers worldwide to experience difficulty logging in to their Windows Live ID accounts. This issue has since been resolved and normal operations have been restored to all customers," said Microsoft's Samantha McManus, Windows Live product manager.

She offered no details on the issue.
