Web metrics firm comScore claims a third of the UK's internet population used online banking during January 2008.
comScore's study looked at number of customers and the frequency of their online banking access in January. During that month, around 10.9 million customers accessed at least one online banking service, equivalent to one third of the UK online population.
Lloyds TSB was the most frequented online service, with 2.8 million customers averaging 6.8 visits per customer. Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), had the most online customers in the UK (2.9 million), which included 2 million Natwest customers. Natwest is owned by RBS.
HBOS clients accessed their accounts via the internet less frequently, with 6.1 hits per customer, followed by Barclays with average use of its online banking facility reaching 5.9 per customer on average.
