Apple bundling extra content with digital albums

Sleeve notes, cover art and lyris to feature in "interactive books"

Apple is hoping to increase digital album sales by working with the four major record labels to bundle extra content with tracks.

According to the Financial Times, EMI, Sony Music, Warner Music and Universal Music Group are joining forces with Apple on the project, which has been nicknamed 'Cocktail' and should be ready to launch in September.

The "interactive books" would feature content such as cover art, lyrics and even the sleeve notes and could be played outside of iTunes.

An anonymous source at Apple told the FT: "It's all about re-creating the heyday of the album when you would sit around with your friends looking at the artwork, while you listened to the music".
