Coronation Street captured on Google Street View

First soap to welcome Google street car cameras

Coronation Street has beaten Albert Square to the punch to become the first UK TV soap to welcome Google's Street View cameras.

Panaromic views of the cobbled set were captured yesterday and millions of fans of the ITV show will soon be able to view close up photos of the Rovers Return on Street View, which was launched in the UK earlier this year.

google street view coronation street"Thanks to Street View, fans will be able to have a good nose around the set in a way that would have been unimaginable almost 50 years ago when the show first aired. It will be much more detailed than how you see the cobbles on the TV," said a Coronation Street spokesperson.

Earlier this week, Google announced that Stonehenge will be the first UK tourist attraction to be photographed for Street View.

The company asked web users to vote for the tourist attractions they'd most like to see appear on the service and Stonehenge beat the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the Angel of the North, Loch Ness, the Eden Project and Warwick Castle as the most popular location. The other landmarks will be added to Google Street View UK at a later date.
