Facebook and Sarah Palin top Google search list

Zeitgeist list reveals Facebook is most popular search term in UK

Social networking site Facebook is the most commonly searched term by web users in the UK, says Google.

The search engine has compiled its annual 'Zeitgeist' list of the most popular keywords that are being searched by web users.

In the UK, 'Facebook' was closely followed by 'BBC' and video sharing website 'YouTube'. Online auction site 'eBay' and the phrase 'games' also feature in the top 5 most popular searched terms by UK net users.

Google also revealed the fastest rising search terms of 2008. Top of the UK list was 'iplayer', in reference to the BBC's video-on-demand service, while the number two and three spots were occupied by 'Facebook' and 'iphone'.

Globally, 'Sarah Palin', the president-elect's rival, was the fastest rising search term, closely followed by 'Beijing 2008' and then 'Facebook login'.
