Yahoo sells Kelkoo at a discount

Shopping comparison site bought by Jamplant

Yahoo has sold its shopping comparison website Kelkoo.

The search engine, which bought Kelkoo in 2004 at a time when Microsoft was busy adding such features to its own search offering, was purchased by UK-based Jamplant. However, no price for the purchase has been released.

Kelkoo founder and former CEO Pierre Chappaz said in his blog that he expected Kelkoo to have sold for under €100m (£85m), far less than the €475m (£404m) Yahoo paid for it in March 2004.

Jamplant was created only six weeks ago. Its corporate registration does not list its officers, shareholders or contact details, and Yahoo declined to provide further details.

Last week saw the launch of a beta version of Kelkoo Cashback, a programme which offers users of Kelkoo's UK site rebates of up to 25 percent on purchases made through Kelkoo comparison engine.
