Bebo adds built-in Windows Live Messenger

Microsoft & Bebo partner for social-networking IM

Bebo has integrated Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger instant-messaging tool into its social-networking site, allowing users to chat over IM from within the Bebo site.

Microsoft said the deal marks the first time its Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live contacts services have been built directly into a social-networking site.

All 36 million Bebo users can now display their Messenger presence and IM with their Bebo friends on the site. Users can add an 'IM Me' icon to their Bebo profile page and begin an IM conversation with each other with one click.

"Our agreement with Microsoft Windows Live delivers a powerful, new way to instantly update and keep in touch with friends and serves to make the Bebo user experience even more compelling and interactive," said Joanna Shields, President, International at Bebo.
