Apple issues AirPort Extreme security update
Wireless fix designed for Intel-based Macs
Apple has introduced an AirPort Extreme software update for users of Intel Macs.
The 6.5MB update is described by the company as: "Recommended for all Intel-based Macs and provides compatibility with AirPort Extreme base stations and networks."
The update fixes a vulnerability that affects both the server and client versions of Mac OS X and was disclosed as part of the month of Apple bugs project.
The flaw meant attackers on the wireless network could cause system crashes by sending a maliciously crafted frame to an affected system.
This issue affects the Core Duo version of Mac mini, MacBook, and MacBook Pro computers equipped with wireless. Other systems, including the Core 2 Duo versions are not affected. This update addresses the issue by performing additional validation of wireless frames.
The update is available for multiple operating languages and requires Mac OS X 10.4.8 and an Intel-based Mac.
