Give your iPod fifteen minutes of clubbing fame

The crowd is the DJ at North London club

Simon Easterman, PC Advisor

North London digital music lovers have a new forum where they can share their musical taste in a democratic clubbing experience – Playlist Club.

The club organisers ask music fans to turn up with their favourite 15-minute playlists on their cross-platform iPod or other digital music player. They then sign up to play their 15-minute set, with the aim of making the audience dance.

Volunteer judges rate the DJs, and the best sets of the night win prizes, sponsored by Everything iPod.

The organisers stress that "you don't need to be a DJ", encouraging clubbers to come along to dance, or just judge the DJs.

London's Time Out magazine – with its finger on the pulse of the latest trends in the city – recently revealed itself to have "chucked out its record decks", because it had become "obsessed with iPod DJing", thanks to the club.

The next Playlist night takes place on 27 November at The Progress Bar in Tufnell Park (two minutes from the tube). Admission is free.

Online reactions have also been positive, with Blogcritics.org calling the club "ahead of its time".
