EasyJet owners the EasyGroup has entered the digital music business in tandem with UK operator, Wippit.
The partners aim to launch the easyMusic.com service in time for Christmas. The operation will consist of two sections: Copyleft, featuring music from unsigned artists, and Copyright, which will offer current hits and back catalogue material starting at £0.25 (US$0.44) per track. Copyleft is in development now.
"EasyMusic will offer free or best value music downloads to consumers in all countries" said easyGroup chairman Stelios Haji-Ioannou, "EasyMusic's agreement with Wippit means that easyMusic.com will cater to an even greater range of consumers' musical tastes."
Paul Myers, CEO and Founder of Wippit said: "This is a spectacular opportunity for Wippit and we're proud that Stelios has chosen Wippit to wear the famous colours of easyMusic. EasyGroup's ideals are parallel to ours and we believe that easyMusic will be a first stop destination for music fans seeking a no-nonsense service".
