Computer giant Dell claims it has hit its carbon neutrality target five months ahead of schedule.

In 2007, Dell announced that it intended to go carbon neutral by the end of 2008 as part of its effort to become the 'greenest company in the technology sector'. It claims that a combination of reducing its power, using alternative energy sources and off-setting has helped in reaching its target of saving 400,000 metric tonnes of CO2.

"We’re driving 'green' into every aspect of our global business,” declared founder and chief executive Michael Dell.

"This includes setting new standards for energy efficiency and green power, delivering environmental and cost savings for customers and aligning key growth priorities with our focus on preserving our shared Earth."
