Xbox 360 to smash PS3 in pre-Christmas sales

Microsoft's console outselling Sony's by 3 to 1

Carrie-Ann Skinner

Microsoft's Xbox 360 console is outselling PlayStation 3 by 3:1, says MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.

According to the voucher code website, despite Playstation 3 sales being almost equal to those of the Xbox 360 in August and September there has been a surge in the number of Xbox consoles purchased during October and November.

The website is predicting that the Xbox 360 will win the Christmas console war, which it says is thanks to its recent partnerships with Sky, Facebook and Twitter.

Retail expert Mark Pearson also said price was a factor. While the Playstation 3 costs £249.99, Microsoft's Xbox 360 is £149.99

"A couple of months ago, little separated the two in terms of units being sold through our site, but November has seen a huge surge by Microsoft's budget friendly console, backed by a stellar PR campaign," said Pearson.

"The PlayStation 3 is undoubtedly a fantastic console, but Brits are still extremely mindful of their bank balance due to the recession, and although they want Christmas 2009 to be memorable, are seemingly more than happy to choose the cheaper option."

Never had a problem with my PS3, my son's Xbox however, 3 rrods in less than a year, waste of time. Only reason Xbox is outselling is cos it's cheap and nasty and everyone who had chipped ones are now having to buy new ones to play online, mugs!

60 pound for wireless adapter, 40 pound to play online just for a single yr, theres the 100 pound back just to make it "equal"

People are so ignorant. They buy the Xbox, then add all the extras that come with the PS3 for free and end up paying more of it.

I own all the consoles and the worst one is the 360, the only people buying 360 now are those that got banned for pirating.

£149 gets you an arcade machine...

you need wifi........ pop goes £60

you need online........... pop goes another £40

you need a hard drive as the 360s DVD drive doesn't cut the mustard. Forza is an intallation game as will alot of new titles....... 120GB HDD pop goes another £90.

So your £150 machine just turned into a £340 one.

and it's still inferior to the Playstation 3.

PS. MyVoucherCodes can hardly be a credible source!

Try trading in a 360. Most stores won't take them as the have so much stock sitting.

Interweb anyone???? said on Wednesday, 25 November 2009

Facebook and Twitter can be used through the PS3's web-browser... nothing new there.

Sky player can be used online too.

3 xbox360's dead in a year and a half. My ps3 still flawless over a year later. The 360 has better online? More games? Ummm...if that's true, what does any of it matter if your console is dying all the time? My frame of mind when turning on the 360 became "are you going to die on me today?" It came to the point where I would shut it off after 2 hours because my past experience was if I don't it will get hot and die on me. The most important thing about the last generation of consoles was...what console has the best selection of games? Now the #1 most important thing is...what console won't die on me?
