Qik app enables Blackberry users to stream video

Social networking service Qik has launched an application that enables BlackBerry users to stream and share videos directly from their handset.

The alpha version of Qik's BlackBerry application, is compatible with the Pearl 8120, Pearl 8130, Curve 8320, Curve 8330 and the Bold. Support for the Pearl 8220 Flip will follow soon.

The application can be downloaded from the Qik website. After downloading the software, users go to the download folder, click on the Qik application and create a new account or sign in to an existing one. After the application starts, users press the stream button, and they are up and streaming live to the Qik website, according to the company.

To get the best performance users are recommended to have BlackBerry OS 4.5 and above installed on their phones.

Qik is also available for phones from HTC, Samsung, Motorola and several models from Nokia.

The Apple iPhone is also listed on Qik's website, but the Qik application is not available in the App Store. Qik is looking into getting the application added, but is not sure when or how this will happen, according to a blog entry from last week.

Recently, the company also announced an alpha version for mass market phones, including a number of phones from Sony Ericsson.
