According to Opera, the mobile web browser, which is currently in Beta, has been designed to bring Opera's desktop web browsing experience to mobile phones, making surfing the net easier and faster.

Opera Mini 5 beta features a new design and new functions including tabbed browsing and a password manager that will store your passwords and logins for online accounts for everything from social networks such as Facebook to your webmail.

The home screen features 'Speed Dials' or thumbnails of nine favourite or most used websites. This can be customised by the user, while the address bar offers suggestions of the most visited web pages as the user starts to type a URL. However, users can still add bookmarks in the same way.

The browser, which has also been optimised for touchscreen handsets, allows users to view the whole web page and select the particular area they want to zoom in to, it also detects if text runs off the screen and adjusts where on the page the zoom is.

"The idea of navigating the vastness of the web from such a small screen can be a daunting leap, which is why we have long committed to make the browsing experience you are familiar with from your PC, easy to do on your mobile phone," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software.

"With new sleek navigation buttons, tabbed browsing and Speed Dial bookmark, you are never more than a lick away from where you want to go on the web.

Opera Mini 5 beta is available to download now for BlackBerry and mobile phones running Java from Opera's dedicated website.

not sure i like the new look and interface of opera mini 5, but it has one major flaw on my sony ericsson, entering text in any search engine and then clicking search.. causes opera mini to QUIT! it is only an early version of the program, but thats surely one bug easy to notice and correct even before such a beta release. Lol
