The satellite navigation tool for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users includes a continental map of Europe or a map of UK and Ireland from Tele Atlas, and offers TomTom's IQ Routes technology to calculate directions.

IQ Routes is based on historical speed measurements calculated from the actual experience of millions of TomTom drivers.

TomTom iPhoneTomTom says it works out the fastest route for every time of day, and in "up to 35 percent of all cases" can result in a faster route, saving travel time as well as money and fuel.

The TomTom for iPhone app also includes an extensive safety camera database including verified safety camera information in 11 European countries. This means drivers are informed ahead of time about any safety cameras on their route.

"With TomTom for iPhone, millions of iPhone users can now benefit from the same easy-to-use and intuitive interface, turn-by-turn spoken navigation and unique routing technology that our 30 million portable navigation device users rely on every day," said Corinne Vigreux, managing director of TomTom.

The TomTom app for iPhone with maps of UK & Ireland is available for £60, while the Western Europe version costs £80.

I cannot understand the reasoning behind charging 59.99 for this app when copilot is availiable for 25? Considering you will have to buy a seperate charger/cradle you would be looking at an extra 40 for a good one and 70 for one that transmits to your car radio, thats at least 100gbp to 130gbp which you can pick up a 'proper' gps for this? Come on TomTon take a look at your pricing!

do apple lock all apps to run on their hardware or could they run on other phones with java capabillities.

Rosemary Hattersley said on Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Hi Ian. The software for iPhone apps differs from that for, say, Windows Mobile handsets, BlackBerry devices or Nokia.

It's not so much a matter of locking as the software the apps are built on being different in the first place.

"and in 'up to 35 percent of all cases can result in a faster route, saving travel time as well as money and fuel."

So, in other words, 65% of the time, it results in slower journeys?!!!
