O2 mobile phones to work on underground

Make calls, text and surf web on Glasgow's tube

O2 and telecoms firm Arqiva have installed radio network equipment which will allow passengers on Glasgow's underground to use their mobile phones during their journeys.

The service, which was made available yesterday, has been installed in the five busiest stations - Buchanan Street, St Enoch, Govan, Partick and Hillhead - and gives O2 users the ability to make calls, text, email and surf the mobile web while on the platforms at these stations.

o2Gordon Maclennan, assistant chief executive (operations) of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, said: "This is a real breakthrough for us as the new technology opens up new lines of communications.

It's great news that from today, O2 customers will now be able to use their mobiles at five of our busiest Subway stations."
