Nearly 80 percent of online shoppers prefer to use a website or company that implements environmentally friendly practices, says 1&1.
According to the web hosting company, a further 60 percent of online buyers said they would purchase from an online retailer if they were powered by green energy in some way, such as powering their websites from a green data centre or servers using renewable energy.
1&1 said the research reflected consumers' growing focus on being environmentally friendly.
"Committing to minimising their impact on the environment has a clear commercial advantage for all types of retailer," said CEO Oliver Mauss.
